Spectacular Seaside Home

My favourite posts are the ones where we take a sneak peek inside other people's homes,
and what better place to find spectacular homes than a global real estate agency.
Savills has offices and listings throughout the world, but today I'm taking you on a tour through a beautiful home in Swanage, Dorset, which is on the South-East coast of England. Private, quiet with views of the sea, and shops close-by, it could just be the perfect location.

I love the mix of old and new found in the original stonework and contemporary fittings.
A grand entrance leads to a rainbow staircase. Built around 1850 of Purbeck Stone the building has had many and varied lives. Some suggest it may have been used as a pumping station, a fish market, and a lemonade factory.

Some parts of the building, including the stairs and crane, originated from London. They were architectural salvages used as ballast for ships returning empty after delivering Purbeck marble and stone.

Lots of texture and gorgeous warm tones in the brick walls and wooden floor contrast the sleek white kitchen and bathroom. With four bathrooms, including a beach wet room, you'll never be caught short!

Lashing of glossy red brings a fun element to one of the six bedrooms.

Bi-fold doors around the rooftop living area open up completely onto a deck with the most stunning views over the beach to the cliffs beyond.

What a breathtaking home, don't you agree?! Incredible history coupled with modern architecture and a beautiful location. Yes, I think I could live here.

  1. What an interesting home, the spray painted steps in the entrance/living area are fabulous. I also love the natural stone walls, such wonderful texture. I would have loved to see some of the other bedrooms so may pop and take a look.

I have almost finished my guest room, I am thrilled with it so far, I bought one of the side lamps today, a little different than on my mood board but still the same theme. I have bought a large lamp for a bedroom, however I feel small rooms can look stunning with a few larger pieces rather than smaller items that can make a room look too fussy.

  4. I’ve always been a fan of melding old and new together in buildings so this house is off the charts for me. The roaring fire in the living room and that beautiful crane just about did me in!

  5. I love the original stonework & pitched roof - it creates a lovely stairwell, especially with the addition of a skylight x

  6. These are incredibly beautiful spaces. I love all the big windows that let in so much natural light. But my favorite feature has to be that huge skylight over the stairs. I wonder what the view looks like at night.
