The Art of the Vignette

One of my favourite things in a home is a beautifully styled vignette - a group of objects displayed together. It's these kinds of details that give you a clue to the person who lives there, adds personality. There is a real art to it, but once you've mastered it, you can apply it to so many areas in your home.

My advice is to layer - place objects on top of each other, in front of each other; books are great to use in a vignette. Make sure you add different shapes, heights and textures to create interest; flowers and plants add wonderful texture. And have fun with it, change your vignettes regularly - you get better with practice.

Bookshelves are perfect for a series of vignettes.

It doesn't have to be complicated, it can be really simple.

Don't forget your bathroom and dressing table.

Even your kitchen bench.

Shops are full of vignettes, and Anna Spiro from Absolutely Beautiful Things is a guru of vignettes.

And if you didn't see this over on my facebook page, make sure you watch Emily Henderson style a mantle piece in three different ways. She is amazing...

  2. I'm still trying to master the fine art of styling a vignette and can use all the help I can get! The first example is my favourite!

  4. These are lovely. I especially like the ones that feature books. As for the kitchen counter, I think mine started out something like this but quickly turned into straight up clutter :-/ Happy weekend Vic!
