Colour and pattern always excite me, especially when I see them layered. The amazing selection of wallpapers that are available to us now make a great base. Don't be afraid to mix patterns, and keep your colour palette to three or four colours that work well together.
I love to see patterns mixed as well. Especially like you mention, when the colours work well together.
