Cush & Nooks Sale

Have you heard the news that we're about to change the Cush & Nooks online shop into a Bibby + Brady shop? If not, you can read all about it here. As we prepare to add our new stock, I'm clearing the way by having a wee SALE. Any items that won't be re-stocked have been slashed in price. Most of these products have only one left in stock, so if there's anything you want, get in quick!

Bibby + Brady Shop

Last week I told you that my Cush & Nooks online shop will be transitioning into a Bibby + Brady online shop. Some of the stock will remain the same, but we will be introducing lots of exciting new products that we love to work with in our interior projects. Some will be our own designs, and others from our favourite suppliers.

It will be a gradual process, but I will keep you up to date with progress. At the moment you can access the shop by clicking on the 'Cush & Nooks online shop' ad in the top right hand panel of this blog, or by clicking on the 'shop' page in our Bibby + Brady website. Our new web address is shop.bibbyandbrady.co.nz and we will be redirecting traffic from my old address shortly. Here are some photos featuring a few of our pieces that will be on offer. Thanks for your patience as we transition, and feel free to email me in the meantime if you have any questions, or any requests for items you'd like to see us stock.

Mother's Day

To all the mums out there, this Sunday is much anticipated and much deserved. Being a mum is the most rewarding, but also the most difficult job in the Universe! As they grow my three girls (currently 11 years and 9 years - twins) are getting a much better appreciation for me and all the things I do for them, so I'm really looking forward to this year's Mother's Day.

All I ask for is no fighting from the kids, and no cooking from me (the kitchen is not my favourite place!). But if you think your Mum deserves a little something extra this year I have put together a selection of some of my faves from the Cush & Nooks shop. If there's anything on there you like, why not leave this page open on your home laptop (hint, hint).

Tropical Fever

It's fair to say that I've gone a little 'troppo' recently. I'm completely in love with the laidback, slightly 70's retro vibe. Think palm trees, pineapples, flamingos, wicker furniture, surf and sunshine.

Vic's Valentines Picks

Valentines Day is looming, and although the Mr and I don't spend a lot of money on February 14th, I always make him acknowledge it, and it never hurts to have a wish list! I usually try and find a cool (opposite of corny) card, and when I saw these ones by Emily McDowell I laughed out loud. Unfortunately for me, and anyone outside of the US, Emily has been inundated with orders, and if you ordered today it's unlikely to get here in time. But keep her cards in mind for the future.

Of course some of my favourite cards are sold right here in the Cush & Nooks shop. These two below would be awesome V Day cards.

These swans, also from Cush & Nooks, are so beautiful. You can buy them separately, but they look so good together - don't you love how their graceful necks create a love heart?! (I have just sold the last prints but will get more in stock, so send me an email if you're interested).

For me Valentines Day is all about the little things - a flower from the garden, a cup of tea in bed. Kikki K have a gorgeous range called the Neon Hearts Collection. I'd be very happy if my cup of tea was brought to me in their Big Heart Mug.

Speaking of little things, here are a couple of small tokens of love that would most definitely be well received (by moi!). Shaun and Angela of Seventy Six Design are truly gifted. The rose gold and white gold frangipani inspired ring on the left, set with diamonds has my name all over it.

Just in case that doesn't happen, I've always loved this Wildfox Sparkle Heart Sweatshirt.

I hope this time next week you'll all been showered with affection by your loved one. And if you're single, listen to Emily - it's so much better than dating some idiot! ;)

Reader Survey 2014

To all you beautiful people who are reading this blog post, I truly appreciate you. It's funny, I sit at my desk (often at a crazy hour) and create something that I am immensely passionate about. Sometimes I just feel like it's me and my keyboard, then I run into someone who tells me that they follow my blog every day, and love what I do, and I realise you are out there. The fact that I get to make a living out of something that I find so fulfilling is magical, but to hear that it inspires others is most definitely the icing on the cake.

A handful of you leave comments, which I love. But otherwise it's only when I run into Cush & Nooks readers in the real world that I hear what you really think of the blog. Your feedback is golden to me, so I have put together a short survey, and I would be so appreciative if you would take the time to fill it out.

I have lots of ideas, but your feedback will help me to know which direction to take the blog in this year. By filling in these 10 simple questions you'll also go into the draw to win a gorgeous green ikat kantha quilt worth $150 - use it as a bedspread for a single or king single bed; a throw for a larger bed or sofa; or even a table cloth.

You have between now and next Wednesday 22 January 2014, 5pm, to take the survey. I will be selecting the winner from those surveys that I find the most helpful, so make sure your answers are good and constructive :) Click here to take the survey, and you will automatically enter the draw. The winner will be announced on my Facebook page Friday 24 January, and contacted by email. Thank you!

Fabric Wall Dots

I'm thrilled with the latest addition to the Cush & Nooks online shop - these gorgeous fabric wall dots come in 40 and 60cm diameters, and can also be pre-ordered in an 80 cm size. Designed and made in Australia, they're fantastic quality and look really striking on the wall. I've put a couple up at our place, and they look amazing. The cool thing is that they are removable, so if you're renting or flatting you can take them down without damaging the wall, and take them to your next place.

Rust & Stardust

I remember about a year and a half ago discovering the work of graphic designer and artist, Evie Kemp, and falling in love with her fun, quirky style. I've been a huge fan ever since, stocking her cushions and artwork in my shop, and interviewing her in her gorgeous home for Homestyle magazine. Now I'm really excited to be sharing with you Evie's latest collaborative venture, Rust & Stardust.

Evie has teamed up with fashion designer, Amy Clarke, to bring us a range of unique, innovative homewares, combining geometric pattern, hand-drawn images, unexpected colour, and lasting quality. The products are all amazing in their own right, but they also work beautifully when you mix and match them together.

As indie designers it's really important to Evie and Amy to maintain authenticity, create great designs, produce high-quality work, and have a hand in every step of the process. They want to produce all their work themselves in their own studio. There will be no out-sourcing, especially overseas. But unfortunately there are not a lot of funding options for small businesses in New Zealand, so this is where we all come in...

The girls have started up a Pledge Me campaign. Pledge Me is a platform for creative crowd funding. Rewards are offered in return for donations, and Evie and Amy will only get the funds if they reach their target. I've made donations to a couple of Pledge Me campaigns in the past, and it's fast becoming a popular way to get a small business venture off the ground. You can read more about the process here.

They already have a fabulous workshop and studio, now Evie and Amy need to raise costs to become a large format textile studio. With the right equipment they'll be able to produce all their own fabric, as well as run classes and workshops to share their skills and knowledge with you and me.

So let's all help make that happen. Go on, hop over to the Rust & Stardust Pledge Me page and choose your favourite reward. When the target has been met, you'll be sent the item you've chosen. Evie and Amy have timed this campaign so they can deliver all rewards by Christmas, but that means time is of the essence.

I love this collection, let me know your favourite items, as I will be stocking some in my online shop. Is it the 3D cushions, the cute wee dog tent, the giant floor cushion that can also be a dog bed...? Scroll down through the Rust & Stardust blog to see all the fabulous products, then go and make it yours!

Beautiful Beauty Therapist Space

Talk about a dream job for me... design a waiting area for a beauty therapist. Only a tiny space, it needed to be feminine, fun, pretty, light-hearted - my kind of brief. Perfect timing, Big Save Furniture had just sent me images of some of their new stock, and I knew their Tokyo chair would be perfect for this space.

Atop the Tokyo chairs I used cushions from my Cush & Nooks online shop and Collected. A gorgeous side table* is a glamorous addition. And it's all grounded by an Armadillo Casablanca rug*. A beautiful gold & white wallpaper is a pretty backdrop to the Catherine print and the amazing hot pink & yellow wall sconce light. And a surf spray vase and sky planter are both unique way of introducing flowers to the space. Voilà!

*(email me for purchasing info on this piece)

New Kantha Quilts

I recently unpacked a new selection of beautiful kantha quilts from India, and have loaded them into the Cush & Nooks shop. I absolutely love these quilts which are made from 100% cotton and lovingly hand-stitched with the traditional kantha running stitch. The lightweight cotton means they're perfect in the summer over a sheet, and in the cooler months just pop them over a quilt.

The sweet little polka dots are a more contemporary version of the quilt. I've also chosen some in a gorgeous ikat print, and the traditional fruit print in vibrant shades of yellow are pure joy! As well as bedspreads, the quilts make fabulous throws and tablecloths.

Thank you so much to the wonderful Florence Charvin of Fotographie by Florence for all the photos. And to my dear friend, and partner in crime, Dael Brady, who helped style and photo direct :)
